In my master bedroom closet I have the sump (with skimmer, carbon, filter sock, heater, and pump to chiller etc) The pump goes into the chiller then to the refugium that is on a stand above the sump, then gravity drains the cool water back to the sump where my return pump does its thing.

The issue is the chiller puts out a lot of heat in the closet. Kinda defeating the purpose. Currently I made a make shift exhaust fan 6" I got from an air hockey table that is venting heat into the attic but the fan I believe is not strong enough or the tubing used is not large enough I don't know which.

In Florida we don't have basements. Can I put the chiller in the attic directly above the refugium? There is an attic access in the closet with space for the chiller. Or will the heat from the attic affect the chillers operation in cooling water. It's my understanding that they work much like the AC in your home.

The chiller has three vents one in the front two on the sides. The fan is attached on the top and then connected to three inch pvc pipe that takes the heat to the attic.

Long answer is No I mean you can but being vary familiar with living in the south and how hot attics are from installing more central A/C and attic vent fans then I care to recall the ambient temps will be so high there will be not much heat exchange at all better to locate it outside or get a plenum box to fit the condenser coil and vent it out to the attic with a 600CFM fan and wired to come on when chiller does . But 600 CFM is about what you will need to move the air . They work just like Central A/C or window unit also .

I am sure you can do that... But one concern would be is pumping the water to the chiller.....

    Here's some ideas....
Build a encloser for the chiller.. with a upgraded fan and vent pipe to exhaust the same as you have it set up...

    Just upgrade the fann..??

Or if the closet wall is a out side wall... Put like a laundry drier duck work through the wall and plum the heat straight out side...

Just some idea's Hope this will get you mind going..!!

    Good Luck....

I have a 370cfm fan right outside my condenser coil and it does good at getting the air outside from my fish room. I vote for the fan up grade and not putting the chiller in the attic.

Do you have a picture on how you attached the fan to your chiller? I would have to some how use drier vent ducting to get the heat to the attic since the closet is in the middle of the house.
