I hooked up my chiller last night turned it on set it for 80 degrees with a flux level of 3 degrees the probe was put in the sump and the chiller was reading 85 degrees in the sump , my tank temp was reading 78 degrees the chiller wont turn off cause it thinks it's 85 degrees in the tank . So is the probe bad? is the temp in my tank wrong form a bad therm? or am I putting the probe in the wrong spot? Do you have a dial in a probe? HELP!

You need to have a third t-stat to see if one of them is wrong. I would put the probe in the display tank where the chillers out put is and see what it does. Also is the water coming out of the chiller colder??? You may be pushing water too fast thru the chiller for it to have the correct dwell time to get the temp down.

    Plus...what type chiller is it??

Put your thermometer near the probe and see what the temperature reads there. Even in my little aquapod, the temperature varies throughout the tank.

I'm running a 1/3 HP Current USA Prime Chiller with Dual Stage Thermostat the water coming out the chiller feels colder yes , I have the chiller plumbed in with a baracuda pump that is running the chiller , sump , skimmer , and power heads for the return and blow form the back filters. it's all hooked up to a pvc rack " I call it" that has 3 valves to controll flow so I can controll all the flow to every single item

I would move that temp probe out of the sump. I don't know what volume your sump is, but I do know that water can pick up some heat from all the pumps in a sump. This would turn out a reading that wouldn't be bad (the temp in your sump might be 85F), but it doesn't work for your purposes. Re-locate it to the display tank.
+1 on using a standard thermometer next to the probe to check for accuracy.

When was the last time you cleaned the inside of the chiller or the filter. I clean my filter every week. My chiller had started running for a long time too like 4 out of 5 minutes. I took it out side and blew the coil off with compressed air and you wouldn't believe how much dust was in there. After that it ran much better, about 1 out of 5 minutes. The cleaner the coil the more effecient it runs.

I also have a fan that blows throught the chiller to help the stock fan keep the compressor, coil and other internal parts cool. This helps a lot believe it or not.

Also just a though but the plus or minus temp of 3 degrees could be an issue.

I may be wrong and if i am sorry but wouldnt that mean it will allow your tank to flux between 77-83 degrees. So if i am thinking right it is still suppossed to be on because it has not met the requirements you gave to you controller.

Try changing the temp swing to 2 degrees and see if it turns off.

Also as said change the themostat probe location and try placing it in your overflow chamber if you have one or somewhere in the DT.

I'm getting it all figured out the thermometer was off new digital reads 2 degree diff from probe set chiller for 82 so it runs 80 all the time , that should do the trick. it blows very hott air out makes the ac run alot in the house any chiller tricks to keep it cool
