I'm looking to buy a chiller for my 65 gal tank and wanted to ask about what details I need to know when buying a chiller. I want to upgrade in tank size but not for a year or so too. Thanks!

Before going out and buying a chiller, think about possibly using a fan which will cool your water by evaporational cooling!
Also, you may want to wait til you get your new tank before getting your chiller. Just my opinion though!!

I have a 125g tank in a very sunny room in NY,and please no comments about how much sun WNY really gets, never used a chiller, simply set up a standard sized fan, set it up on a timer and had it blow on the tank, been doing it for 10 yrs and have never had a problem with temp, also run to 10k , 175 metal halide pendats and 2 actinic 10-12 hrs per daythat throw out quite a bit of heat, has worked well for me.

Thanks for the replies. My tank is also in a room that gets alot of sun, especially during the summer time, sometimes it gets direct sunlight. My concern is the temp fluctuation. Everytime I have a few temp fluctuations my tank seems to go down hill and I always loose something.

Well I keep the ambient of the house around 72 to 73 F. And never had need for a chiller up to this point. Neither here in Ct where the humidity and heat is low or in Va. where it get bad. All I ever used where a couple of fans to cool through evaporation . Chillers are costly to run very inefficient equipment to buy and or operate I'd rather cool the room makes me feel better and cost less. Also a chiller also needs to have the condenser coil exhausted to the outdoors or the heat molecules will just go right back to the cool water.

I think I need to buy a chiller for 75 gallon reef tank. I was looking at the jbj 1/4 hp, but then I found looking in marinedepot a chiller called the Seachill chiller, it saids it cools, heat and uv sterilizes. Has any one of you have the experience of using one. I think it would be great, cooling and heating but since I have no experience with chillers I would like any recommendations.
Also how this uv sterilizer would work for a reef aquarium?
Thank you for help, you guys have really educated me in this hobby.
