chitons are dying

    I don't think they're getting what they need in our aquariums. Mine died after a few months.

    ya i put a macro algae in i do water changes, clean out my filter once a month, i have two carbon bags in my filter. im cutting back on lighting and i have a ridiculously good cleaner crew. when i saw the chitons dead within an hour there were nassarios snails eating them and within another two hours there was nothing but an empty shell

    I've had mine for many years. let's just say I haven't bought any ATL ones since 2001 and I still have some :)

    They are sensitive to low ALK/MG/CA and elevated PO4 I've found.

    predators are something to think of. Got shrimp? Shrimp love to kill snails and what not. It can't be a heat issue, they can easily handle upper 80s for protracted periods, and in the 90s for longer than coral etc...

    did it successfully establish itself for any period of time?

    snails and hermits in general are more prone to nitrate poisoning than fish, but with chitons it is especially so. that was probably the culprit in one case, but wasn't the issue in the other...

    i dont have any shrimp. i think its my nitrates from the canister filter
