They were added to mine kinda right away. Only 2 clowns in there. Nothing for them to be afraid of. The clowns stay in the same area all day. The chromis were schooling for a while then 1 by 1 they were getting picked off. I thought it was something in my tank. Nope

I did a chromis only tank a few years ago - added 10 at once and all lived for over 4 years. Once day 1 was missing one for no apparent reason but never had an issue after that and wound up giving the school to someone with a much larger tank about a year ago. Last I spoke to him all still going strong - he sent me a pic but I must have erased it from my email.

It always surprised me how many people have bad luck with these fish since I never had any issues - guess i've been lucky...

I have had 1 of my original 3 for a year and 2 at 10 months. Don't know why but I have had great success with this species. A few pointers for purchase/care
1 If the pupil is dialated or head is grey/black, it will die.
2 If you have chromis of very small size it will most likely get picked off.
3 Pick fish of all similar sizes but with small size differences.
4 The color of the fish depends on light so they will sometimes be green or blue.
5 Keep them in odd number groups, the more the merrier.
6 Make sure to have a tank of at least 50 gallons or 4ft to house these fish.
7 They are plankton eaters in the wild so do not forget to supplement their diets.

Just some observations I have made keeping these fish. Hope this helps

I'm a big fan of Banggai Cardinals they are awesome looking fish, why not try 3 of those?

Out of all the fish in my tank, my Cardinals get the most compliments from everyone that sees the tank, they're so unique & very hardy.

I added three Chromis to my 90 one year ago when I started it up. They are all doing fine. They chase each other a little but never seem to hurt each other. They mostly just posture. Never gave this fish a second look for years until I finally broke down and did it. Glad I did. Also keep in mind that they do get fairly large and three are plenty of a bio load for your tank.8)

I have a 75g with a 30g sump mixed reef. I had a percula pair, a yellow tang, and a diamond goby. I picked up 8 chromis yesterday assuming a couple will die off. One died pretty quick, the other got to close to the breeding perculas, poor guy, and lost a fin and eventually died. I have 6 left and the six are doing fine. none of the fish seem to pick on them when they are schooling. it's when one goes astray when he gets picked on.

So, I added four chromis to my tank today... they are cool! Out of them, one is already looking like it's not going to make it... The other three are doing good, though. My clown likes to swim with them, but is not chasing them... definitely cool looking fish... they were only a few bucks each, so a nice, cheap add that adds a LOT of color AND movement...
