ciclid sand in a reef?

    Just wondering if ciclid sand is ok in a reef?pros?cons?

    Really depends on what ciclid sand is, silica base and whatnot. For reefs its always suggested to use an aragonite substrate due to it buffering abilities. That being said, people have used play sand from home depot with no ill effects.

    as above said, depends the sand- but often times 'cichlid sand' is actually crushed coral or aragonite which is used to buffer up the pH for the african cichlids. South Americans probably don't appreciate not getting distinguished on it, hah.
