Not sure if this is the right spot - but here it goes.

I just added 4 small Chromis - to my 75 gal. This is the preserved issue.

The small chromis look like they are fighting the current I have. They seem to be huddled up in a low flow corner of the tank.

I have Aqueon pump(fan) 1250 the circulation goes from left to right pointed upwards. the current rounds the full tank.

Are the fish too small for the amount of force? should I adjust the fan (right now it seems optimum circulation)

Are the fish just not strong enough and will adjust? Righ now I have put them into my refugium for now.

Any ideas or help would be great.

That does not sound excessive at all for a 75 gallon tank - that is only like 15 or so turnovers/hour.

Do you have any other fish in there? How old is the tank?
    What are you parameters?

If you JUST put the fish in - they are just acclimating themselves to their new environment. How did you acclimate the fish? Drip acclimate? Slow water additions while temp acclimating?

Chromis can tolerate much higher flow than you have in your tank.

It's likely that they are just acclimating themselves to a new environment and they are a schooling fish so it makes sense that they are sticking together.

If this continues then you might have a bully fish/invert (CBS) or some parameters are out of whack in which case we would need a full run of your water chemistry to help out.

Hope this helps you in the right direction.

I have 2 1400's, a 750, and a return running around 400-500GPH...with 6 Chromis, all of which swim fine, and don't seem to mind the current. Something else is up with yours...or maybe nothing. They don't swim elegantly...they are more darters and jukers.

Ok I thought my flow was not excessive. I did test and 0 ammonia o nitrite less then 5 ppm nitrogen
    ph 8.0
    calcium 400
    1.024 salinity

I have 2 fire clowns mated pair (still small) and large lawnmower blenny
2 hermit crabs and 9 assorted snails
    1 collector sea urchin

All seem to be doing fine.

I did regulate temp first - then dipped them twice over 30 min. I added 4 all at once - three were not doing well - one seems fine. 2 are now in the refugium seem to be doing ok.

I got them from a well respected saltwater re-seller.

you might have caused more stress by relocating them to the refugium.

The pair of clowns might be your source.

They are damsels so by nature they are bullys.

Give you fish some time all together in the DT - it will not help for now to relocate the chromis to the refugium as it will only delay the inevitable territory dispute that needs to occur so that they clowns might stop bothering them. Plus - if there are more of them the clowns might be less prone to bully if they feel way outnumbered. But if they are true bullies at heart then then will continue to do so . . . .

I'd say leave them all in the DT and give them a day or two to figure things out . . . chromis seem pretty hardy IME>

Thanks O-man yea I was thinking I was jumping the gun. The clowns don't seem to be bullying but I'm not in the tank LOL.

I will pop them back into the main tank tonight and hope for the best.

Yeah I'd recommend doing the move from Fuge to DT at night - with the light off the fish will not stress as much.

I am hoping right along with you for the best!!!!!
