These are not the same ones you can find at Lowe's.

In regards to heat issue, you'll find that all of these PAR 3X lamps, available on the market now, will have similar operating temperature regardless of the company. That is exactly why there is the disclaimer in the first place. You'll have a hard time convincing anyone to advocate its use in a can or hooded light fixture. The heatsink gives off heat because it is designed to do exactly that.

Only time I would advocate its use in a can or hood fixture is with active cooling like what ComputerJohn is planning to do. The issue with that is if the fan fails, you'll overheat the lamp.

 

I have already thought if that, fixture powers off. To prevent fire and damage to the bulb.

Well just got home and checked on our frags. Just one word " WOW" ... After having out for 39min while fragging them last night. Mind you the lights have only been on for 4 hours!!!

Except the Eagle Eye in the middle.

Great thread! Just caught up on it. The BoostLEDs look great - great spectrum. Corals look happy.

Can I get a FTS with the canopy now?

 

mmm....loving it. Im thinking about getting some corals in my 5 gallon here soon (its lit by a boost LED bulb the 3 white 2 blue combo)
