Hello Fellow Reefs!! Well after I moved my old 29gal livestock to my 90gal at our new house, I shutdown my old 29gal. I was going to keep my old tank, but decided not to. The main reason was that my old 29gal was about 7 years old & the at the top in the middle section where there wasn't a brace and the glass was bowing out. So, I junked the tank & kept all my other hardware.

For months I wanted to build a frag/QT tank, so that way if I mail ordered any livestock, I wouldn't run the risk of harming my 90gal DT. Petco was having another one of those dollar per gallon sales, so I bought a new 29gal & a 10gal to use as a sump.

I decided that I was going to repaint my old stand that was brown in color to flat black & give it a fresh look.

Again, I have this build in a detailed process & I hope everyone enjoys reading as I did building it.

    Sit back & enjoy....

Here are the new 29gal & 10gal tanks that I purchased at a dollar per gallon sale at Petco.

I was going back and forth if I wanted to go with a HOB overflow or just have it drilled. After a lot of reading about HOB vs drilled and talking to an All-Glass tech on the phone. I decided to have it drilled. Please note: Drilling a tank will void the mfg warranty!

A quick note to everyone. All-Glass tanks up to 40gal and that are NOT part of a package kit are NOT tempered and can be drilled. This was explained to me by the tech.

Well on 10/17/2010 I went to my LFS to pickup my 29gal that I had them drill a drain in. When I got it home I rinsed it out to get out some of the powder glass that was left behind.

I suspect the build is a bit further on now?

if that tank was drilled on the 17th, then I expect its plumbed by now?

nice looking paint job on the stand

Thanks. LOL you know me well my friend. You could say that. It has water and had been cycling for a week now with LR, LS, a few hermit crabs, couple of snails and one eagle eye frag in the tank.

I would of posted sooner, but didn't have the time.

On 10/17/2010 after drying the tank, I installed the 1" bulkhead which is threaded on one side and slip on the other. Just like all my tanks I apply silicone to my bulkheads during installation and then apply a little to fan it onto the glass. IMO it gives it more strength not allowing the bulkhead to move and the glass to flex, preventing it on cracking so easily.

After allowing the silicone to cure for 48hrs, now started the tricky part. How to incorporate the drain system to have maximum flow with minimum noise. Even though this setup is in my fish room, I still want it quite. I tried a lot of ideas and designs.

I'm sure you'll be happy with the outcome. The main reason I didn't have time, was that this is the system that i used on my BoostLED review thread. It's a little hard to do two threads in such detail. ;)
