Starting to get my RO/DI system running. I finally found a location in to room I like. I went to Home Depot & got some Shark Bite connectors since my new house is 99% Pex piping. I needed to make a connection for my water feed to my RO. Built a mounting bracket since my stud are 16" on center & the RO mounting holes are 10" wide, go figure. Now just letting the paint dry.

A gate is much better at controlling flow....actually not really made for that. Gate valves are designed for open or closed and unrestricted open.... but PVC valves don't matter for that (flat gates compared to wedge gates) and are much better at controlling flow. Balls are very unlinnear.

Regardless what you have... if you have a 2" pipe, and you need to restrict it down to a 1" pipe.... no real difference between a ball or gate as far as "how bad the resriction is". There are other valves that have very turbulent flow charactoristics...but not really the case in our applications.

Herbis have very good safety. With a good controller you also have very good safety. But it is better to have it and not need it rather than the controller always having to take over.... know what I mean.

any way... you certainly are not hap hazzard in your approach and any well thought out design will work well even if it isn't how I would do it. I'm getting a Apex next week and can't wait to put the added power to use.

I hear ya buddy. I thought you already had a controller? Let me know which Apex you ended up going with & how you like it, if you could. That is going to be my next big investment, just trying to see if it's cost affective spending the extra $100.00.

I have a AC Jr. The only difference in the lite and regular is that the full can controll 4 variable speed outlets, and has ORP built in. You can add those capabilities to the lite with modules, but will cost more that $100. So depends what you want. If you will never monitor ORP then no big deal.... the variable power can control dimable ballasts, and controllable pumps. So that is sort of a big deal... LEDs, dimable MH... Tunze pumps.

Well, I have had my RO/DI system running for 24hrs & have about 30gal of DI water made. I need a 100gal. I need to order a flow valve & some other supplies to make this system automatic. I turn it off when I go to work, don't need a flood... :(

I was getting to much vibration up the wall from the basement, so I replaced the rigid PVC to flex PVC after the return pump. A lot better now.

I purchased my Instant Ocean salt in bulk 4 50gal packages. Wow now I know what Tony Montana felt. "Say goodnight to the bad guy." LOL.... ;D

That's me adding salt to a 66gal container.

Drained the test freshwater out of my entire system & wiped down the display & sump/refuge tanks. Mix my sand & rinsed it. WHAT A PAIN THAT WAS!!!

    We have saltwater!!!!

I added the rinsed sand to my display tank & slowly added saltwater to the system. One trick I learned some people will use a plate at the bottom, so that the sand won't stir up when filling. I found a bucket works best. Place both return nozzles into the bucket & fill it up.
