I will be getting an RO/DI unit for sure, Just got to let the funds even out first. Im trying to figure out though what to do about my sump. I dont really want to go back to using my big 60 or so gallon rubbermaid container because it took up so much space under there, but I really would like for it to hold more water and really would like to have a fuge. Any ideas?

Would have to see your set up and the room you have. You can make a fuge out of a 10g tank for a display as small as yours.

you should be ok without the skimmer for the time being + dont run your lights to much as it will encourage algae growth. looks good

Thanks for the link Luna! Well tonight I think I am going to pickup a 20 long and a 10 for my sump/refuge (or maybe just one 30 or 40 gallon depending on $$$$).

You will have to check out me or Ogles fuge set up and see how we just use gravity to feed the fuge and let it just fall back in the sump.

Well I didnt get a chance to go get the tank tonight (gotta love OT) so that will probably be pushed off to this weekend. I wasnt going to to test my water for another week but had the sudden urge to tonight for some reason. My Nitrites are finally down to 0 after waiting close to a month to test!!! My nitrates are at 20 ppm and my PH is sitting at 8.0. What do you guys think, am I getting closer to being able to have a reef tank?

Craig now that your cycle is complete you should start testing for Calcium, Alklinity, and Magnesium concentrations. These are the parameters that will play the most important role in a healthy reef tank.

Glad to see it's coming along well. Can't wait to see it in person.

Well I have a brownish algae covering my tank that I originally thought were diatoms but KOgle mentioned he thought it might be cyano. What do you all think?

Also I have this white stuff starting to grow on one side of my tank. Im not sure what it is..

Brown is typical of the cycle however, there are many types of brown cyano as well. Keep up the good work, switch over to r/o and the brown should go away with reduced lighting period (unsure of what type of lighting you have). I like the idea of going with baserock and your decision to go reef! What i did to save money on my sump is i went to a local fish club auction and picked up a HOB filter, filled it with cheato and pods and hung it on the side of my sump down low. insta-fuge! and cheap, got the filter for 10 bucks! Hope this helps, but if i've learned anything in this hobby, cheap is not the way to go! GL i dig the thread! Karma for you reef choice!
