Clam killing hermit crab????????

The crabs I had the problems with in the past were not hermit crabs they were hitchhikers on my live rock and not reef safe, But after that experience I am a little mistrustful of all crabs.
The Clams were not fresh water dipped as they were aquacultured clams and I didn't think it was necessary, Was I wrong???? ....................... John

 

I wouldn't say that you're wrong but considering that you don't really know what the condition of the controlled environment is at the place where the clams are being aquacultured, it's a bit risky to not dip them. Regardless of where I get my clams from, the first priority before adding them to my tank is a 10 minute freshwater dip. You'd be amazed at the stuff I've seen clams spew out after being dipped in fresh water.

Make sure you get the ph and temperature of the fresh r.o. water up to match the levels in your tank before you dip

 

That part was kind of a given but thank you, If I didn't know to do that I would have been a little angry if my new clam died after his dip.
I think I will take a dip with him it is like 94 degrees here so I think an 80 degree dip would feel good. ;D John

 

Just laying it out for anyone that's new to the hobby. I didn't know about the ph/temp thing myself until a few months ago when I had to dip one of my clams

You're swelting out there too huh? This past weekend was murder....MURDER I TELLS YA!

 

I just kind of assumed that you would have to match the temp and PH as it would be like acclimating the clam to it's new environment.
And yes it is defiantly sweltering here also it was in the 90's again today.
Amcarrig thank you for the info on the clam I always take any of your advice to heart and listen to what you suggest.
