clam or oyster

    I bought some zoas the other day. Came home from work looked at them and they moved. So just wondering what it really is. Color is white with brown and black spots that i can see. Guessing his mouth.

    Hard to tell from pic, I think clam would be most likely.

    It won't be a clam, since it's attached and overgrown like that. It will be an oyster of some sort, most likely either a Spondylus or Chama species. Since it looks to be fairly inflated and roundish with straight, non-undulating margins and no pronounced, thick spines, I'll guess that it's a Chama species, or Jewel Box. The mantle does look rather like a Spondylus, though.

    Good looking zoos.
    From what I can see it looks like a little boring clam. I have one that was a HH on a mushroom rock. I can't remember what they are named but the type I have won't get bigger than an inch across. It's still cool to me though and I always make sure it has good flow and food supply. :)
