Clam or something?!

    just noticed ive got a pretty mean looking species in my tank, not sure what it is, but its attached to a rock, and closed up when i tried grabbing it, so i just need to know if its ok? or to pry it off the rock? heres a picture,

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    If it is a bi-value (clam, oyster, mussel......) you do not need to remove it. Harmless filter feeders that usually do not get enough food in out tanks to live long anyways.

    well i havent added any rock in over 8 months so he's been in there that long if he is a hitch hiker, it just looks mean b/c it has like razor looking things coming out the side of the shell, and ive never seen anything like it

    Definitely some kind of clam. Corailline is correct that they're harmless filter feeders, tho I did have several live for a few years in my old tank.

    No close, but not exact, it is like horse shoe shaped and has some ribbon looking things coming out of the sides, and it has like barbs on the ribbons its crazy ill see if i can get a better shot of it with my nikon.

    couldnt get a better picture, but if you look at the picture close enough you can see the things i was talking about, theres 4 in the picture to the left of the actual shell.

    I was never able to keep them alive over about 3 months. :cry:

    I love bi-valves, but I guess I just did not provide enough food or stir up my detritus enough to meet their dietary needs. Now had they been photosynthetic that might have made the difference.
