Clam? Oyster?

    I got some sand from the LFS to seed my substrate, and this was in it.

    Any ideas? It's about 3/4" overall.

    Looks like a clam to me. I wouldn't expect it to live too long, but you never do know.

    I would say clam or scallop.

    looks like a small scallop to me.

    Last night it extended a "foot", and seemed to feel around on the substrate. If I'm not mistaken, I think that will make it a clam of some kind.

    I hope if it does die, I notice quickly before it fouls the tank.

    looks like a "cleaner" clam, very common on live rock, but live sand is a new one to me. No reason to fear it's death, they are very hardy and can live while the tanks cycling.

    It's an Ark Clam, either an Acar species or a Barbatia species, I think. The most common hitchhiker that's similar to yours is Acar plicata. I can't tell for sure from the pic, but it looks like the sculpture on yours is finer than is typical for A. plicata, and isn't as distinctly cancellated. It may be Barbatia sculpturata, but you can compare for yourself here:
