    Hello,
Gonna take the dive into a clam! 55g with a 48 Cree led system! Stable params!

I'm thinking of going with a Derasa or Crocea to start as they seem more noob hardy! And ideally if I keep this guy running strong, of course a blue Maxima! Here are 3 sites I'm looking at!

    http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/product/ps.web?command=search&sp.pr[1]=100.0&sp.kwds=clam&sp.size=10&sp.wkey=0&sp.skey=&sp.mfn=&sp.mpn=&e0=&e1=&e2=&e3=&e4=
ok looking place, but alot of out of stock stuff!

Tridacna Clams Saltwater Aquarium - Aquatic Connection

love the thought of the electric crocea's as they stay smaller, but what would ya get?

and of course LA divers Den so i can see what i'm actually getting!

Any other places i'm missing that has reasonable prices? I found some other but not really ready to drop $200 to find out if my tank likes clams or not! It seems to like everything but chalices right now!

Thanks for any and all help!

clams are great i got 5 of them now. They love my leds, One thing about your chalices though, do you have optics on your leds. I did and my chalice hated it, i ripped the optics off and used just the diode and they love it. I have my light 8 inches above the tank, tank is 18" tall and i have chalices up half way now showing amazing color and mouths.

Do you have any LFS around you that sell clams? Clams are sensitive, especially to air. So i would be worried about them shipping. I'd try and see if you could get it local first and then order it online. especially if you are unsure how it will go over in your tank. You could find one local for cheap.

Thx for the input! unfortunately all my LFS's are in a "time out" whether it be from aiptasia filled tanks, constant sick fish at one(and also he lies and sends animals home that shouldn't be sent home with inexperienced people and wrong information! saw him send home a dragonnette with a bottle of instant cycle for a brand new tank, sent me home with a baby leopard gecko for my my with sand and a bright daylight bulb! $150 vet bill later to save the lizards life) sorry for the rant, but my next best option is over a 1 and 1/2 drive!

What are your thoughts on which one to get to learn with! the derasa or crocea?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !

I put this here because Tridacna are not as nearly as sensitive to air or FW as some people think.

They are exposed to both routinely in the wild. What does them the most harm is when you open a bag that has been shipped exposing it to fresh air are you dramatically changing the pH.

I would start with a decent size Derasa like over 2 inchs from a local vendor or Liveaquria.com.
