    Hi All,

My clam appears to have sat on an empty shell. This appears to be bothering it as it won't sit flat. I tried to gently pull the shell out, but the clam has a real firm grasp on it. Any thoughts or suggestions?

IMO, leave well enough alone. A clam shell is a good base for a clam. I don't see any problem here.

Are you concerned because it's at an angle? The clam will align itself as it sees fit. I believe the "grasp" you are describing is it's foot, and that's a good sign.

leave it alone, I have noticed that most clams sit kind of sideways so I assume that they like it that way. And the, if you mess with it you might hurt it works too.

Thanks everyone. I think it is sitting at an angle because the empty snail shell is protruding from the foot. Otherwise, the clam seems healthy enough, full mantle extension.

I was just concerned that the shell would irritate the clam too much. It is either grasping with the foot or the byssal threads.
