    Hi everyone,

Tonight I was shocked to find an open small shell inside my aquarium. It looks like a clam...

I am very surprised by this, as it is in front and middle of my aquarium. My only excuse for not seeing it earlier is that it's lightly colored.

It's about 2 cm wide and has clear shell-like indentations along the surface (see attached photos).

So anyone know what this is?

Most likely just a normal scallop. Good filter feeders. Can get fairly large and hitchhike in on LR or corals.

is it alive or just an empty shell - hard to tell from images

if its alive, it may have only recently moved there, they can and do propel themselves around the tank when the location they where in was not to their liking

if its just a shell, then it may have been hidden in the rock work and then once it died got knocked around by snails or crabs and then ended up front and centre

Hard to say if he's alive or not... I'll keep an eye on him. (I assumed he was.) Thanks for the ID! :)
