I have two Crocea clams both acquired from Reef Empire auctions. One is doing fantastic but I have noticed the other slowly losing color. It responds normally to movement by closing and its firmly attached to the rock its on. Is the color fading a sign its slowly dying? I have been noticing this for a couple months now. Also it is positioned beneath one of my support braces, could it possibly not be receiving enough light because of this. Because its so firmly attached I didnt really want to move it unless absolutely neccesary. Any ideas?

I read through your thread Peredhil and I too had come to the conclusion that since it is under the brace the light isnt hitting it well enough but it is SECURELY attached and Im afraid attempting to move it will only stress it out to the point of no return. Has your clam made a turn around? I really dont want to disturb it but if I have to I have to I guess

If it's high up, I think it's more a matter of time than it is a matter of light...

The light bounces around a bit... I think it just has to get used to your lighting

well that's something different then... sounded to me like these were new purchases. How old are the lights?

They may be getting old (not enough light anymore) or too new (clam adjusting to more intense lighting).

I upgraded to the MH in Jan right before I started goin crazy with the RE auctions so I doubt that bulb life is the issue I plan on replacing these bulbs around Sept. but this clam has always been under the same lighting and in the same location. He did fine for the first few months but over the last two I notice the fading. Im not home right now so no pics but it is almost identical to what yours looked like. They havent got any worse (or better) so Im stumped.
