A local grocery sells a variety of live clams and small octopus. Is there any harm of me adding them to my tank?

Most saltwater clams you're going to find in a grocery store are going to be geoducks and littlenecks. Both of those species come from temperate waters and won't live long at reef tank temperatures.

Agree on the temperature issue...if you can put a chiller on your tank and keep it in the mid 60's you might be okay.

It'd be tough. People do do cold water tanks though. You could set up an atlantic tank.

I agree, water temp would have to be alot colder than what reef setups are. As for the octopus, you would have to keep the tank covered! They tend to climb out...

I was at Shedd's once when an Octopus managed to get the lid off his tank. Needless to say it was highly entertaining watching the big boys in aquatics try to get the octopus back into the tank. Made my past fish problems seem so much smaller and more manageable. ::)
