I bought a Clarkii Clownfish from a local reefer yesterday. While he was trying to net it in his tank the Clarkii was banging into the rock and glass like crazy. When I got it home I noticed it had popeye in one of his eyes. Is this most likely because it irritated it when it was running into the rock and glass? I tried feeding it today but it didn't eat. What should I do? Keep in mind it's only been in my aquarium for about 22 hours now.

I would try to return it, the guy catching it probably wasn't too careful. I would return it because it has little chance of surviving.

If you can't return it I would try to keep it as unstressed as possible with ideal water parameters and try feeding small amounts of defrosted (frozen) brineshrimp, mysis and krill. Enriching the food with garlic may help its recovery.

It was only 10 bucks I'm not going to return it. Why do you say it has little chance? besides the popeye it acts pretty normal it cruises around the tank and it isn't shy at all. Maybe it's just not eating yet because it's been in my tank for less than 24 hours.

I think what Triggerfish means is that if it's pop eye due to injury rather than stress, some serious damage could have been done to the poor lil guy. If it did receive such an injury causing its eye to pop out of socket it could have other injuries as well.
And as Phil was saying, if you can't or choose not to return it, just try to keep him as stress free as possible. You could also try to leave the lights off for a while so he is a little less stressed.
Pop eye is usually due to inferior water params and stress, i believe, correct me if I'm wrong.

It depends what has caused the popeye, if it is damage that caused it then it should recover and eventually deflate, but sometimes with consequences. It can cause blindness in that eye.
If it was caused by a bacterial or fungal infection then it is unlikely that it will survive.

yeah thanks swagger87, I might have exaggerated a little but if it did recieve such an injury it might not heal.

Yeah, popeye is a bacterial infection that happens due to bad water quality but it can also happen if the fish irritates its eye like hitting against a rock for example.

Yeah, I'll just keep an eye on him (no pun intended) and hope he gets better.
