How do I clean my bio balls? My nitrates are at about 20 and would like to lower them a bit.
    Thx

Do a small water change. When you have the waste water in a bucket just drop them in there and swish them around until clean. Never rinse them in fresh water it kills off the bacteria.

We "cleaned" ours by getting rid of them and sticking a fuge in their place. However, the tips you got here are very good, if you are set on simply cleaning them. Also, adding a filter sock or something similar before your bioball area will keep the gunk off of them longer, and as long as you clean/change the sock regularly, your nitrates won't rise. If you leave the gunk in the sock for a while though, it can be a real problem.
