i usually just leave it alone but every 5-6 months i will take a sponge and clean it but i never remove any of the coraline that grows on the back

I clean the rear glass on my mantis tank because it looks gross and I don't have any snails to do it.

My reef tank has 3-sided viewing so I most certainly clean the "back" of it. The side that is against the wall is too short to worry about since it is half covered with the over flow anyway.

Personally I don't clean mine. But I think it's all just preference. I don't have the back of mine painted or anything and it's up against a wall so it's too hard to get to to worry about anyways.

As for it affecting the aquarium, no. It's just like cleaning the front of your glass.

i painted the back of my tank black. i feel like if i take a magfloat to it, it may scrape the paint off the smooth glass. and its to tuff getting behind my rocks with my hand.

a couple time i would clean mine, but i just gave up because scraping the coraline off the back would just cause it grow back faster on the front of the glass faster.

i wish there was someway i could kill coralline with out harming corals
