    do you keep your refugium clean or nasty and why. mine is nasty most of the time.

    I thought you were going to poll this...Anyway, Nasty. I believe that if the nasty stuff grows in the fuge. It will hog the nutrients so it wont grow in the DT. Cyano, Bubble etc.

    gotta vote nasty, the goal is nutrient removal - if stuff aint growing all over it then its growing in the DT

    The fact that a refugium is nasty rather than clean actually helps it do its process correctly. When a fuge is cleaned, it will still work and do its job, just maybe not quite as well as it would if you had left it alone. The bacteria growing in the fuge that makes it oh-so "nasty" is what makes it work oh-so well.

    I GOT A 1/2" layer of "dust" on the SB. i get grossed out when i have to stick my hand in there!

    although its still kinda to new to really tell i plan on cleaning the fuge....pretty much never.
