had a 55gal, shallow sand bed, with 35lbs live rock setup for 2 months. i recently added a yellow tang to the javanese damsel thats been lonely since week 2. i overfed the tang on algae strip and am not sure if its the cause or if whats goin on is natural. anywho, my live rock has become sparsely covered with a red algae, which is cool by me, but i'm noticing in my sandbed too and i don't care for dirty sand.....my plans are for 3-4 nassarius and 1-2 turbo snails, and a sepent star....sound okay? or any other recommendation?

Sounds like a good start. You might also look at getting a sand sifting fish. Just keep adding cleaning crew tell the can almost keep up. You dont want to over clean and have them starve.

If the red is hard and won't come off it's coraline. If it comes off in sheets, it's cyano. Just to compare, my 90g has the following cleanup crew.

    130 Dwarf Ceriths
    35 Florida Ceriths
    25 Nassarius Vibex
    30 Large Nerite
    4 Turbo Snails
    1 Sandstar
    1 large hermit crab
5 small hermit crabs (if they are still alive)

Mine is considered a strong CUC

Talk to John Maloney (Reefcleaners.org). Fill outthe questionaire under the Custom CUC tab. He can fix you up nicely. Always a pleasure to do business with him.

He will send you an email in about 3-4 days. The email will look just how PharmrJohn has his list of cleaners displayed.

That sounds like a great CuC. Did you not get any planaxis? To get up in all the really small nooks and cranny's of your rock?

    Wise dude, wise.

Yes. If it takes more than 3-4 days, send him an email reminder. Very cool dude to work with. Even if you don't end up buying from him, I would stick to his recommendations.

Question - do you think he would mind me filling out the form, even though I cant possibly purchase from him? and he would know that when I posted?
