I came home yesterday to find my cleaner shrimp dead. He just molted over the weekend for the first time since I have had him, too. My dad bug sprayed my room with a can, not a bomb, the same day, but he covered my tank with towels and left it covered for about 3 hours. It was the only thing that died, too.

Yeah, but if that is the case, nothing else was affected by it. Also, it's on the other side of the room from where he was spraying at, so it couldn't have been "soaked".

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Personally I would not put too much time and worry into the cause, it happens and you'll never know the exact cause, however your father used aerosol pesticide within the room housing the tank, it would not surprise me if some of that aerosol made it into the system.

    I would run some carbon.

+1^^ to what corailline said. It just may be that your shrimp was more sensitive to the spray.

Obviously it wasn't soaked. Guess I should of said absorbed so you could understand it a little better. It might not of even been there bug spray but honestly if it were me I wouldn't be spraying anything into the air around my tank at all. A lot of people don't think about it and spray their glass down with windex to clean the outside of their tanks and not realize their spraying ammonia and its getting into their water. Go buy another shrimp and forget about the last one it could of been worse.

some strange replies..... test you water before you buy anything else to make sure your parameters are in check, even a strip test will do (that what i use to quickly see if anything is off) otherwise as correctly mentioned it does happen. shrimps are particularly vulnerable during and just after molt. sorry for the loss

I understood what you meant perfectly fine. What I was trying to say was that it wasn't heavy spraying, so I don't see how it could have gotten in to my tank. It wasn't being sprayed into the air, either. Plus, he's sprayed before and it never affected anything.

    I also added carbon.
