Cleaner Shrimp eggs

I only have 1 cleaner shrimp in my tank, and today I noticed that s/he has eggs in the back legs area.. I am certain thats eggs, what should I do with them? How should i try to save them from getting eaten or filtered?

Unfortunately rasing the cleaner shrimp larva is difficult. There is nothing you can really do to save the offspring unless you have a system designed specially for rearing and then it is difficult. It is just free fish/invert food which is not entirely bad.

 

The shrimp may have been pregnant when you got it...just couldn't tell yet. how long have you had it?

It's a difficult process, raising shrimp larvae.

but I had him/her for at least 7months.. is it possible to get pregnant alone... for a shrimp?

 

Yes they can fertilize their own eggs. Grey eggs are infertile and metallic green are fertile.
The larvae add great planktonic organisms to the tank which are quickly eaten by corals and the occasional fish.

Great to have as part of a mature tank
