My old cleaner shrimp and my new cleaner shrimp just got into a fight and the old guy look like he was trying to eat the new guy. Anyone ever heard of this? I got the new guy in a floating tank in the big tank. He is still moving very little.

I have heard that if you want more than one, add them at the same time. But I have never seen 2 fight with my own eyes.

I just watched it. the smaller younger one did not even put up a good fight. He is dead now.

I still have one more of the younger ones left. Not sure what to do with him.

I added mine within a week apart and they're fine, they're actually, well... The shrimp has gotten pregnant twice in two months

If you have a sump, catch the bigger one and put him in there. Add the second one to the display tank, and then a week or so later, put the original back in.

    And SFYL :(

Thanks. I'm going to do that. they have been in the tank for over a week together now. The old guy has been in the tank for over a year now.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Not uncommon for cleaner shrimp to kill other cleaner shrimp.

I've read that in some cases, if the female sees the male unfit, she will chase him around the tank until she catches and kills him. +1 It's not unusual behaviour.

I had one my two cleaners die mysteriously. I wasn't home when it happened, so it very well could have been the other cleaner. I replaced it with a Coral Banded Shrimp, and needless to say, the cleaner stays away ;)

How big was the tank? If they feel that the other shrimp is invading on their "Cleaning ground" they may try and out compete for space. I've been told (now this is not a general rule of thumb, since I've seen it work before) but, you should try and either put them in at the same time for 55g and under, or for larger tanks, 120 and above, that it should be ok since there's plenty of room for the second addition to move away from the first shrimp if there's any conflict in a larger tank. But, in a smaller tank there's no where to go, so you'll probably end up with death.
