After doing a little research I read that the banded coral shrimp is part of the "cleaner" family. I want to get a cleaner shrimp but from what Ive read about other reef keepers banded shrimp, they are rarely seen cleaning fish. What I really want is a shrimp that will and maybe the banded isn't my best choice? In your opinions, what shrimp work best for you?

definetly not your best choice. most time the instinct is curropted in them if it is there. one guy i knew had one that would pick chunks out of his fish at night. its more likely to hunt fish not clean them. a cleaner shrimp is the best choice

edit: also a cbs may kill other shrimp in the tank

IMO the coral bandit shrimp is a predator I have 4 fire shrimps in my tank and in the past any spots I have seen on fish by the time I would go to catch them for treatment the spots are gone. I hear fire shrimp eat some things so make sure you have compatible corals .

Skunk Cleaners Shrimp are the way to go, although my CBS cleans a couple of my fish.

We have two Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp in our 55 gal tank and they do a great job. We bought them when we had our first ich outbreak in hopes that they would help our fish out, and they did better than we expected.

They kicked our Tang out of his cave and set up shop. The fish would swim in, and the shrimp would clean them until they took off. It looked like it tickled, because the fish could only handle so much and then they would swim away. They always come back though. Every once in a while the shrimp will attach to the fish while it swims.

No more ich, clean fish and healthy shrimp. They have both molted a couple of times and are probably about 30% bigger then when we bought them. I wouldn't be without them!

I liked the CBS because of its colors and it was part of the "cleaner family". I guess it wont be my shrimp of choice. Thanks for the advice guys. Maybe ill grab a skunk cleaner

fire shrimp work the best for cleaning fish, but not that good cuz the fish in aquariums are small and usually don't want to be cleaned.
