Just wanting to hear people's experiences with cleaners and pistol shrimps. I'm looking to add a pistol goby pair to my 72 but don't want my cleaner shrimp to become lunch.

My first tank was a 20 gal hex. I had a pistol in there with a cleaner and 2 peppermints. The pistol killed all 3 within a month so I am assuming that that's just what pistols do. But I am also assuming that it was because of the tank size and small 16" footprint. My cleaner is almost 3". I have about 135 lbs of liverock in the 72. Do you think that's enough room for them to avoid each other? Anyone Successfully kept both shrimps in the same tank long term?

I've got 2 peppermints, 1 blood red, 1 skunk, 1 pistol goby pair, in my 72 and everybody gets along fine. give ur pistol a chunk of meat once a week to keep it fat and passive.

I assumed that was the case. Lack of room/space led to the demise of my cleaners and peppermints. A 20 gallon hex is pretty small, especially because I only had about 20lbs of LR in there too. I'm sure the pistol could kill a fragile pep or cleaner shrimp with one blast.

We have a Tiger Pistol w/ Yellow Watchman goby, a pep shrimp, and a cleaner shrimp in our 46 bowfront. All get along fine.

I also have a cleaner shrimp and a peppermint shrimp with a pistol/goby pair in a 150, but never had any problems. It might help that my cleaner shrimp is huge!! And he was in there first.

Thanks for the replies. My pistol went into the sump as soon as I took down the 20g hex and setup my 72. I assumed he would kill the cleaner so I placed him in my fuge. I plan on adding a pink spot watchmen pistol pair today. So maybe I can add the other pistol to the 72g display. Think thats 1 too many pistols for a 72?

Added pink/blue spotted watchmen and pistol shrimp. Pistol already started burrowing. Goby has not spotted the pistol's burrow yet. I'll post some picks once they get acclimated and more comfortable.
