If your having a problem algae in one spot try adding a power head pointing towards it... water flow is important... It still a very young tank, and if it had just finished cycling, your bound to have some issues this early... Although some claim to never have dealt with diatoms and HA... Best of luck

also nassarius snails dont eat algae they are meat eaters get some turbos, margaritas, ceriths and theyll do the job as long as the algae isnt to long

yeah I know 100 nassarius snails is alot for a 55g, but my substrate needs the aeration and such.. also Ive already caught my big emerald crab and 2 blue legs hermits helping themselves for a little treat :) so probly after 1-2 months maybe be 50-60 left alive.

and you have a 6-line, mandarin, and a scooter in a 55? those are all pod eaters...

you sure that's not 100 dwarf ceriths? the nassarius (IME) don't go very deep at all... I don't feel they're particularly effective at stirring the sub. My ceriths do a good job of that.

To the OP, someone mentioned about getting to the source and not band-aiding... IMO, the source is you pretty much don't have a rounded CuC. No snails that eat the algae and so forth. A good mix of snails is key. I've got 6-8 variety of snail (I forget exactly) in my 55.

Like N-Rida, we'll have 200+ snails in a 55 to give you an idea. (reefcleaners will have plenty extras in the shipment ;))

Now that my tank is more established (about a year), I just added a conch today (juvenile) to help w/the substrate.

I think I have 3-4 Cortez tubos, maybe 5 or so cerith and the same amount of nassarius vibex. I also have 3 emeralds. All my crabs died when I treated with intercepter... Keep in mind I have a 180...

no you didnt recommend them to me. I already had these from last week prior to placing my order with you last night. I do see some going under the substrate with their little snokel/mouths poking up out of the crush coral. :) I'll probly move 20 or so into my 10g saltwater tank.. they do move pretty quick, id have to say..
