Yes, you basically have to have one. Or at least definitely want one. They will clean up algae and uneaten food keep your tank actually cleaner and looking cleaner!

My suggestion is to go to reefcleaners.org and let him build you one. John is pro.

I have a 75 gal and have about 15 snails, mostly turbo, 8 hermits and a shrimp that i rarely see. Thats worked pretty well for my tank and made a huge difference with keeping algae under control in a fairly new set up. Good luck!!

go online. i agree john at reeflcleaners.org can't be beat.

in my 55 gallon i have around 200 snails (mostly dwarf cerith) of 6 different species.

a couple dozen snails isn't going to cut it and buying them from LFS gets expensive real fast.

you want a good mix of snail species in adequate numbers.

Reefcleaners FTW. IME you should order less than you want though because John is known to throw in an extra snail or eighty. I ordered twenty an got 100 lol.

kind of abusing John's niceness there aren't we? You can do that, but I won't suggest it to folks... And that doesn't translate to all species, he only does that for some.
