Hey Guys- I thought I saw a post on this before but could not find it the last time I looked. Could be that I did not look hard enough.

Anyway- How does everyone clean their filter socks. Currently when I do a water change I spray mine off in the sink to get rid of all the build up. then before putting them back in the sump I rince them in the water that I just removed from the tank to get any tap impurities out of the water.. Just wondering if this is enough. My Nitrates are always at 20 and I can't seem to get them to budge. Thinking maybe I am not doing enough.

I change mine out twice weekly and wash them every time. I put them in the washer on gentle, pour some bleach in there and wash on cold/cold. I do the two rinse cycle. If you don't have a two rinse cycle, fast forward your washer to the rinse cycle and do it again. Hang dry (they come out virtually dry anyway). Rinse in RO water before use. Works like a charm.

Are you married! My wife might just kill me if she found my filter socks in the washer.. OH well have to die from something I guess! :)

Do you have a top load or a front load? Only reason I ask is we have a front load that uses less water so I'm wondering if they would come as clean..

I have a top load. Next purchase is going to be a front load. The front loaders these days clean better with less water. So I wouldn't worry. And tell her that's what the dang thing is for!!!! Jeez, what's a little fish poop between friends!!!!! OK, don't put it like that......

I throw mine in the washer as well on hot, but I use baking soda in place of bleach, I know the bleach works but It scares poop out of me!

I just take mine on once a week and rinse it under the sink, flip it inside out and rinse again. Wring and rinse then put back it. I do this 4 times, then replace it with a new one.

    Cheers

I hated the sock for a long time now I love it. I have 4 of them that I rotate out. I wait till 2 or 3 are all dirtied up then throw in the washer. Same as above, wash on cold with bleach and rinse in RO water before I put them back. It works perfectly.

I rotate 2 socks (wed and sat) Rinse the heavy stuff off inside out in the sink, then just throw in the washer with bleach--hot cold heavy cycle, xtra spin. I have a front load, works fine-Then I just put it under the tank. by the time change is due it is dry and ready.
