wondering how often to clean LR? as well as how? im starting to great brown alage every where mybe from my rockscape. last time i did it was when i did a water change. i filled buckets from the tank and scrubed them with different brushes since i have 3 types of LR. rescaped it put the water back in leaving the dirty out and putting fresh water in. i just watch a video on scaping so if i need to clean the rocks again im going to rescape it the rite way.

You pretty much have it. Just don't put the water you scrubbed the rock in back in the tank.

Get some snails and urchins and you never have to "clean" them again.

LOL. have 2 urchins ( blue tux and longspine ) 2 turbos, like 6 mini turbos, and i bought the 55g clean-up crew from one of our sponsers. but still having probs and the fact that 80% of my fish are herb eaters :). the fact that i have a 55g tank w/ 125lbs LR i believe kinda hurts alittle. plus the scaping isnt that great so snails wont really help when i have green algae on the glass that i need a scraper for.

Sounds like the problem is in either your feeding methods, filtration or water change schedule/procedure... Taking rock out to scrub it isn't part of the hobby for your average tank owner.

i dont change the water w/ the lighting system i have i have fans running a lot. could be feeding cause i do feed a lot to the piont i have to clean my skimmer filter every other day. my filtration for my tank is more then needed i believe. 55g tank w/ 100g skimmer and a 75g cannister filter.

How often do you clean the canister? Food and detritus trapped in the media still breaks down and creates high nitrates which tends to result in uncontrollable algae blooms.

not often but water prems are rite on the money. i did clean it a couple of days ago if that has anything to do with it. since you ask me about cleaning the cannister how often should i change out the charcoal and the white tube things. when i had a fresh water tank i rarlly changed anything and everything was good. see one reason why im asking this question is because i have some lg LR. ive even broke some so that it would look nicer. but didnt look into scaping as much as i should. w/ 125lbs LR in a 55g filter should be ok for as often as i clean it.

If you are cleaning the rock like you say you are remember you are removing bacteria and maybe going through many cycles and slowing down the maturity of your tank.
