cleaning LR ?

    What testing methods are you using to get your params? Water changes will help with higher levels. Remember, even if your test kits says 0...if you have algae, 0 is misleading. The algae is using nutrients to survive, so your water is not that clean. Fix the nutrient problem (i.e. no water changes, general maintenance, over feeding, etc.) and the algae will dissipate on its own.

    I had about the same amount of lr in my 55 and I didn't have any issues.I also had alot of fish in there and overfed alot.to answer your question, the way you described the cleaning method will work fine.

    My question for you is what kind of flow do you have? What kind of power heads and how many?

    i have 2 pwrheads 1 piece of junk 600 maxijet and a pwrhead the lfs said that this is the only one u need. id would have to look it up but i know its rated for a 6ft tank instead of a 4ft tank if that helps. thinking of dropping the maxi cause it doesnt stay on the glass and has blown sand around.

    well today i used a toothbrush and scrub some LR but not all as well as some of my corals. i rescaped it and its looking like some of the fish are enjoying it. like i said i have a 55g tank and in a few months looking at a 200+g so i can have a sump and do a better job at this hobby. i fel w/ what i have im oing great just need some fine tuning on some things w/ my 55g and i should b golden. tyvm for all questions and replies.
