I am in the process of getting everything together for my new 75 gal my sump will be in on thurs. I just got 2 new bags of carib sea live sand it says to rince with salt water? My question is does it have to be saltwater or just tap water? I dont really want to use my r.o water just to rince the sand. Also i want to use at least half of my sand all of my lr and 1/4 of water that is in my 46gal this will help my cycle rite. Thanks guys.

I cant help you on the sand but I would not use tap water to rinse it. You run the risk of getting contaniments into your system. some people use strictly tap water in their system with no ill effects. I only use RODI water in mine. By using the stuff from your 46 gal tank it will help speed up the cycle. I have heard (no experience with it) that if you use the sand from the other tank u only want to use the top part of the SB for seeding. I used alittle of the sand from my 72 to help seed the sand in my 120. A little less than a cup and only the top portion

if its live sand, you dont want to rinse it with freshwater or that will kill the life forms off that you have paid for

just use a gallon or 2 of the water from your 46 (mature tank water is better than new salt water) to rinse the sand - and then add new salt water to replace what you used from the tank
