Windex for mine.. done it for years. I remember folks saying it leeched thru the glass but I have never seen that happen. just dont spray it in the top.

some use vinegar as well. either way.... one thing I have noticed is if you have alot of salt residue form drips and such on teh glass, wipe it down with a damp towel first then let that dry before windex. then your windex wont streak

RODI water or window cleaner. I spray the window cleaner on a rag well away from the tank.

wipe it with a damp cloth then dry it with a news paper. this way u will not use any chemicals and you are reusing the paper. i will guarantee you will start using this method on your house windows too.

I use Windex as well, but the "All Natural" one...it is clear, not blue like normal windex. I too spray it on a rag, away from the tank, then wipe clean.

Those micro fiber cloths thingies. They are awesome! If you need to wash it first, RO/DI as mentioned is fantabulous. Our water is really hard and nothing looks clean when washed. Let it dry before you use the cloth or you will just smear the water around.

I have a spray bottle that I mix 1/2 RODI water with 1/2 Vinegar. I spray paper towels with it, and wipe down the front glass, being sure to dry it quickly. The vinegar sheets away on glass and cuts through greasy fingerprints as well as salt creep. Not only that, but in the off chance a little got into your tank, it's not going to hurt anything. I normally spray the paper towels away from the tank, though to get as little vinegar near the tank as possible.

If you have salt creep on the front glass that is removed without an acid base like vinegar, it can etch into the glass when it dries, leaving a permanent stain. Since my front glass is my window to the world of my tank, it's important to me to keep it streak -free and clean.

I use the RODI/ Vinegar solution to clean buckets and other tank related items as well.

I wouldn't use ammonia based or any other chemicals near my tank, but that's just me.
