I also enjoy just looking at the tank and rock too. I got myself a red light the other day to try and see what comes out at night exactly. Some very very interesting things crawling around. I tunred it on around 2a.m. after the lights were off for about 4 hours. A lot of liitle things I have never seen or can even find pictures online of. I will have to use the red light and maybe find Mr. Ticker and get him out.

Would be interesting to see what happens with the little part of the star. I would be interested to find out. I have seen what I think are baby turbo snails in my tank recently also. Not sure if it is, but they have the same type of mouth as a turbo, just no shell and are about a 1/4-1/2" in length.

I have heard the clicking noise one time since the last post. I can not find anything in the tank. I have found some remnants of hermit crabs that have been eaten. I had 8 of the little guys and can only find 3 now. I may take the live rock out and suspend it in air over a container or something so if I do have a mantis he will jump out of the rock into the box thinking he is getting back into the water. Not sure that I want to disrupt my tank though.

Have not heard the clicking noise since the last post. Still have not seen anything either. Nothing has gone MIA either so I am not sure. I guess I will worry about it when I see fish missing.

Smashers eat snails, crabs and shrimp. The clicking you hear means that the mantis is either modifying its burrow in the rock or attacking a snail or hermit crab. If you see empty snail or hermit shells with cracks or holes in them, you can blame them on the mantis. If the empty shells are not cracked, you can blame mother nature :) They will also eat just about any type of fish food so you won't lose all of your snails/hermits to the mantis. Think about it this way...Which is easier, eating a lobster that's already had its shell removed or getting the meat out yourself? :)
