I was heading home for lunch today and my wife called me on my cell phone and said a large piece of LR just fell in the fish tank. I got home and a rock probably at least 5lbs fell due to the way I had stacked it. I kept telling myself I needed to move it, but I hadn't done it.

Luckily nothing was damages a pack of Xenia and my toadstool leather were bumped, but nothing to serious.

Has anybody ever had a large piece of LR fall and actually do damage like crack your tank. Just wondering.

The bottom pane is usually tempered glass so it would have to be a big one.

Truth be told, I've been thinking about the same thing because I was thinking of ditching my sand so I'd like to hear from people as well.

Its good to know that it would take alot to crack the tank from a falling rock.
I often think about how nice it would be to have a bare bottom tank, in fact when I was originally setting my tank up I strongly considered doing it, but for some reason didn't do it. Probably because I didn't know enough about it at that point.

I just can't imagine removing everything and going bare bottom. If I remove everything from my 90 gallon its getting moved to a 150 gallon thats for sure. :)

Lots of folks who do barebottom use starboard (or really , a type of cutting board) fit to the bottom of the tank. Distributes weight of the rock , and prevents such cracking issues on the bottom. ;) ;D
