I have a green ricordia florida (5 polyps) and for the last week or so they have been closing up for most if not all the day and most if not all the night time. At first I thought they were going through something normal by closing and opening but now for a week they are mostly closed. I thought maybe too much light (I have 2 65w 10,000K lights and 2 65W actinics) so I turned off the 10,000Ks for a day or so and they are still closing alot. I have added Iodine everyother day and my other base parameters are pristine TRITE=0 AMM=0 TRATE=10 - 15ppm so I am at a loss as to what is going on.....can one of you guys help me out. Are they dying (they don't look like they are shriveling just like they are not happy) or are they going throught a normal phase? Thanks in advance!

How big is your tank? How far away are they from the light? How fast is the water current?

Maybe they are stress from the move? They do close at night, but mine just shrink. What lighting were they under before? Did you test your Iodine level before you add? Iodine can be very bad if too much is added.

I have read they have low lights requirement and needs to be in low - med water flow. I have them about 12" inches from a 110w PC + 70NO and low-med water flow area. I have them for less than a month and one of them are splitting now. HTH.

They are in a 55 gal tank near the bottom....they have been doing great and split once....then all of a sudden they started closing up on me. I did not realize that too much iodine can cause this. I was told to add once a day to keep iodine levels up because corals, especially shrooms, like iodine. The water flow is moderate in that area of the tank.....I don't know, they aren't shrining or losing color, just closing up.....I am dumb founded by this!
