i'm looking to add a closed loop to my 75 gal when i drill it for a new overflow.

can i use an overflow to feed the closed loop (then i'd just put in a bigger oveflow) or would this put air into the feed for the cl pump?

if i can't use the overflow, how to i set up the input hole for the cl? should it be high or low in the tank, and how do you protect it from sucking in tank contents?

    thanks!!

btw i'm probably going to use a blueline hd40x pump, with 1" input and output lines. once inside the tank i was thinking of transitioning to 3/4" lockline with eductors on the ends. any advice here is greatly appreciated!

Yes, it would be a bubble nightmare. Additionally, if your return pump ever stopped pumping, you would burn out your closed loop pump.

You want it low enough from the water surface that you don't have cavitation that would suck air into the drain. (It would look like a little tornado). Most bulkhead kits come with baskets/strainers that keep critters out of the plumbing.

cool, thanks. the system i've thought of should run about 900 gph. with a strainer/basket on the bulkhead, am i going to find tang stuck to the intake, or this is no problem?
