Reading some ppl's sign. and hearing ppl talk about having a "closed loop system" made me wonder. What the hell is a CLS? Aren't all of our tanks a CLS? And if there's a difference, what is it? I know Tangsters opinion on this subject and I tend to agree with him, but I wanted to know everyones opinion. Thanks, Luna

My understanding of a closed loop system is plumbing and a pump used strictly for water flow, nothing else. The pump can be internal or external. If the pump is internal then plumbing isn't necessary.

Closed loop is just a slang term people have used to call pulling water from the tank and returning it without going to a sump. That means that the intake to the pump is fed from the tank and the return goes straight back to the tank. So if power goes out water goes no where, it just stops.

there is also zero head pressure loss on the pump, the water goes from the tank to a pump back to the tank.
