Just filled up my 45g hexagon with black sand that I bought off of somebody. It was new in the packaging and it looks like the Black Tahitan Moon sand.

My question is, I thoroughly washed the sand off in 5g buckets. It LOOKED clear so we filled up the tank. But now it still looks cloudy...

How important is it to start with crystal clear water. Can I just begin my nitrogen cycle and worry about the cloudiness down the road when I do some WC?

The water should clear within two days. At least that's what happened with mine when I filled it with sand. Go ahead and start the cycle!

This is nothing to worry about totally normal, i dont even bother rinsing it as really no matter what you get some type of dust cloud.

In 24 hours it should be pretty clear but still maybe a little cloudy, and after 48 you should be looking nice!

When I filled my 90 gallon with water I scrambled my sand so bad it took about 3 days to settle.

I also have a chemical called "Kent Marine, Pro Clear" which helps make your water clear faster, but it's completly unnecessary IMO
