I'm not sure if this is posted in the right topic or not... If not, please move to the correct location!

Well, on my most recent trip to the LFS, I decided to switch salt brands from IO Reef Crystals to Seachem Reef Salt because of several people's Recomendations there. I filled up my mixing container with fresh RODI water yesterday afternoon, then started mixing in the salt over a period of several hours (my normal routine). The salt dissolved quickly and stayed rather clear all night as I kept checking. I ran my PH, heater, and bubble stones all night, as normal.. Then when I woke up this morning to check the levels and salinity of the freshly mixed SW, I noticed it was real cloudy and there was a white film on all the equipment, and some brown dirt like stuff on the lid.

All the other salts I've ever used, I've never had this problem before, and even after 24 hours of mixing, it was still cloudy! I turned off the powerhead in hopes that maybe it would settle before doing my WC, and it looked a little better... But I figured maybe it just looked that way from the film along the walls of the mixing container... But I was wrong! I went ahead and did the WC hoping it would maybe clear up mixing with the DT water, but it didn't! It's been about 30-40 minutes and its still cloudy. All my levels are good, and the fish and coral all seem to be fine.. But it just looks bad!!

Is this normal? Or will this do any harm to the inhabitants? I hope I didn't do more harm than good by going ahead and doing the WC!! This is the first time I've ever had this happen with any fresh mixed water! And it just happened to be when I got this new salt. I use a 32g Brute trashcan as the mixing container, and always clean it before and after use. It's a 125g DT with 40g sump, and I did about a 25-30g WC.

Any advice on how to help this would be appreciated!! I hope it doesn't do this every time I mix up some of this salt, because its a fresh box, and I hope it's not a waste of money!!

Sorry so long! Just wanted to cover all bases! Thanks for looking!!

Did you pour the salt in slowly? I've never had salt stay cloudy like that. I've had the white film on equip and a film on the top of the water.

Yea I've got a large measuring cup I fill up with salt 4 times to get the total amount I need to mix to 1.026... And I will fill one up and slowly shake it all across the top of the water. Then an hour or 2, after the waters cleared up, I'll do another, and so on and so on, until I've got the total amount. Never had this problem before with IO.. Just with this Seachem RS
