It colud be a combination of things and as everyone has alluded, it may be related to your salt. It is curious though that you say it was cloudy before mixing in the salt. Did I understand correctly? What is the status now?

Yes the water was cloudy even before I added salt
    Tank Status:
Tank was filled w/ deionized water and IO was added the salinity is 1.022
The Temperature of the tank is ~78[sup]o[/sup]C
The only thing in thetank is water salt and a powerhead
There is a creamy cloud in the tank which is only really noticable when the light is on. when the light is off you can only notice the cloud from the side view. A view which is verey cloudy with the light on. Maybe the deionized water I used was bad, but shouldn't even tap water clear after a couple of days. I have been running my overflow filter for about a week w/ no change. I added a bag of carbon on saturday (2/7) and as of yet I see no change. I hope I dont have to drain the tank and get better water that would be 90 for the water my LFS sells water for $1/gal and 30 for the salt.

1 dollar per gallon of water + 30 cent with salt? The is the biggest rip off I have ever seen.
I have seen 95 cents per gallon that was mixed with HW professional marine salt

With kent at another LFS it is 80 cents mixed with RO/DI.

Everyone else has added opinion..so guess I will throw mine into ring as well - as I went thru same gyrations when setting up first tank. ???

Cloudiness, in my case, was to very fine particulate in sand that did not get washed out all the way when I rinsed it. (and I rinsed alot).

Took forever it seemed for it to finally settle out - or my filters finally got caught it all.

With pumps running - I think I was just swishing it around and not giving it time to settle.

Continual cleaning of filters also helped get rid of the cloudiness.

Am going thru similar experience with latest new setup. But starting to finally clear up nicely. (after 3 days)

I dont know what the problem is I have no sand in the tank. After some close inspection of the water ive noticed sometimes when i look at it it looks like a cloud moving in the water but its not particles or airbubbles at least that I can see. One thing I have noticed is the white filter in my sump has started to turn a brownish color. Could that be some sort of clue as to my problem? I wasn't able to get to the LFS yesterday to get a test kit. im going to try to make it there today, but they see kind of expensive. On the internet ive seen the Seachem marine basic test kit for ~27 dollars but the LFS is selling it for 45 dollars. Maybe ill try to find it at another shop. I called all the other LFS in my area even the Petco Petsmart and dare I say it Petland, and nobody else sells DI water let alone mixed saltwater exept for the people selling DI water for $1/gal. Maybe I should expand my "local area". This sucks I want to be able to put something living in my tank already i have had the tank for almost a month and ive had saltwater in there for a little over 2 weeks. This is just really annoying HELP

I can't remember if you said you were running charcoal in this tank?

You can get a cheap test just to get the idea where the alk is at.
