New to the salt water aquarium world, had the tank up for a few weeks now, live rock, and the first small fish doing well. Everything tests good, just waiting for ammonia to drop off completely. Water was more cloudy than I expected, but that wat attributed to my protein skimmer making micro bubbles, I fixed that from someone's DIY here, but water still a little bit cloudy with the lights on. Is this normal with a new tank? The water is very clear with no lights on. Thanx, Nick

Welcome to 3reef! Also welcome to the saltwater world. Sounds like either bubbles caused by a pump sucking air, (maybe a powerhead?) or maybe that the flow in your tank is kicking up very fine particles of sand. What kind of sand bed do you have? What kind of pumps do you have on your system? Can you post a pic? Again welcome and GLTA

Ahh, finally got through the tough first cycle, ammonia and nitrites at 0! fixed the air problem by getting a better skimmer, and that also got rid of the 8.0+ ammonia levels. Nitrates at 40, and still slightly cloudy...should I do a water change now, or wait a little....nitrites went to 0 just yesterday.

That could easily be an algae bloom, hard to tell without really seeing it in person I think. Best to just wait it out for a while more. Let's wait and see what the other opinions are.

    The survey says? !! :)
