I have two yellow striped maroon clowns. The male is about 1.5 inch's in length while the female is about 3.5 inches in length. They have been doing their mating dance. Does anyone know how long it should take for them to lay eggs??

No idea but would guess a couple of days at the most.

The dance is just submission, a kind of flashing/twitching. Usually the male flashing the female.

Spawning behavior will be them cleaning the rock around whatever they host, getting extra territorial, and _LOTS_ of the flashing/twitching dance, still mostly male, but the female will get in on the act too.

My Ocellaris clowns took about a month to pair, and almost a full year in my tank to their first spawning. I got them as ORA juveniles, which I think are about 6-8mo old... so I figured sexual maturity at about 16-18 months.

I used to get really excited every time the male would do his dance, thinking "this is it!" then one day a couple weeks ago I wasn't even paying attention and next thing you know I have eggs everywhere.

Clowns spawn according to the lunar cycle. Can't remember specifics. But they should average around twice a month. My clowns were spawning regularly for a year but after I broke the tank down and reset it in my new home they have only spawned twice in the past 8 months

Thanks for the info guys! I'll keep an eye out for them to start cleaning their rock. Hopefully I won't have to wait forever.lol
