My clown fish is hangin at the bottom of the tank a lot and is usually vertical lookin up. What does this mean?

I have a 55 gallon fish only tank with a yellow tang and flame angel along with the clown. The other 2 are fine, not displaying any weird behavior.

Need to know a bit to help you. What are your water parameters? How long has your clown been in the tank. Any changes been made after the clown was acclimated? When was it doing this behavior? Is it eating? Breathing rapidly or signs of fin damage?

Clowns don't like too much current. If it's a juvenile clown, it will find a calm place usually in a corner and just hang there. They will also usually find a corner to sleep in when the lights are off.

One of mine did that initially and then decided to go find a corner. Funny thing about captives

If it does this at night, it is normal. My false percs do this as well. I could venture an outlandish guess that it has something wrong with it's swimbladder, in which case, it would be a permanent thing. Wouldn't be fatal, just would not be able to swim correctly. However, I think I am stretching with that one. Probably just being a clown amongst other fishies.

My two B&W Occies get funny at night and go vertical next to a power head out of the flow or on top of it. When we turn the actinics on in the morning they take a good while to "wake up" and do their normal thing.

Clown is one of two fish that I've had for about a year and a half. The strange thing is that he's stays in this weird position on the bottom corner until he is fed and then appears normal for those few minutes...he is eating normally and the fins appear to be fine. Just not something he has always done just since the past few months.

Is it possible that he likes cooler water and is goin to the furthest away spot from the heater?

Depends on if your heater has good flow to it. If it did, the water around it wouldn't be any hotter. Have you tried adjusting the power head flow direction to see if that gets him to come out?
