    Hi Guys,
Im new to the salt water stuff, but I have a quick question about clown fish pairing. I have a three month old 50 gallon and i bought a pair of true pecula clowns for it. About 2 weeks after i got the pair i realized the female was missing, I later found out it got sucked into reef octopus hob skimmer (it was my fault, i pushed the intake for it down to much and it slipped through it) anyways so now I am stuck with a male. He basically spends all day for the past 2 weeks now swimming up and down the glass in the corner of the tank and is basically not entertaining at all. Also in the morning he likes to hang out at the VERY top of my tank and just sit there, almost looks like he is dead and floating. I would think something of this but he has been doing this ever since the female died. Anyways my question is should i buy another female clown? What are the pro's and con's of doing this? I currently just have about 15 hermits, 1 yellow tang, 1 male clown, and a mushroom coral, and pulsating xenia. let me know what you guys think, ive heard great things about this site.

i would change the rockscape and add a new one about the same size
changing the rockscape some times will trick a fish into thinking it has moved. also my clown behaves the same idk

Your male will eventually turn to female if its in the tank by itself for to long.
If your wanting another pair. Introduce a small spiecies that hasnt decided its sex yet.
Because once they turn female, there is no turning back to male

Thanks for the great responses. Its been about 2 weeks without the female in the tank, how long do you think I have or does it usually take for it to turn female?

There is a chance it may have turned female, but there is a chance it may not have! Big help aren't I ;D It doesn't matter either way though just make sure you buy one smaller then your current one and all should be fine. If it has turned female it will of course stay that way, if it's still male one of the two will turn female in the future.

Also, I have a pair of clowns that are always together and all they do all day is cruise up and down the corner of the glass so yours may continue to do that even after you add the 2nd one.
