I have 2 clarkii clowns and a TR maroon clown. My question is....should I leave it at that? I plan on getting an anemone. My tank is a 54 gallon. I know maroons can get pretty aggressive although this TR'd one is really pretty passive.

You picked the two most aggressive clowns there are, well Tomato Clowns are pretty aggressive.

Everything will fine for months and then they will become sexually mature and aggression will set it.

With that said in that size tank I would not add another clown.

I'd hazard a guess that you'll only have 2 and then maybe 1 if the maroon wins the upcoming battle. Sorry:(

Do I just see what happens over time? I figure once I introduce the anemone (I'm thinking I want to get two and try to have them at different points in the tank) it may create a whole other dynamic. I didn't think clarkiis were all that aggressive but I was wrong.....I didn't think it was a good thing to add any more. Thanks for the confirmation on that.

I'd return the maroon if the clarkiis are pairing up, and good luck on keeping the anemone where you want, i hear they like to wander about;)

Remember it's a crap shoot at best if all the Clowns will reside in the anemones.

To save your self frustration I would remove the Maroon.

I have had established Maroons that killed everything I tried to add to a tank. Love them but they are mean once they mature. Having a pair of Maroons makes for a nice show piece.

Typically Maroons should be added last if possible.

hmmm......the maroon is so pretty though!! I think I should make a decision soon because I'm getting ready to do some water changes and clearning of my live rock which will mean removing most of the rock because I need to scape it differently. That would be the time to try and get the maroon out of there....dag...I can't really tell if the clarkiis are pairing up or not. Right now, all three pretty much swim around each other peacefully. I would guess that since they're pretty small that they just haven't assumed a gender?

ok, made my decision based on the advice - thanks! I'm going to remove the maroon to save headaches down the road. I really paid attention specifically to it last night to observe its behavior. It is showing some signs of aggression when I watch it closely not so much directly at the other clowns but to all of the fish intermittantly (sp). Hate to see it go but I think it gives my tank a better future.

I love Maroons and sure did not want to give mine up.

They get too large long term for nano tanks, which I have and far too aggressive.

In big tanks a pair looks spectacular, in anything under 50 gallons they become monster once they get older.
